Road Safety with Constable Lorena

This week we had a visit from Constable Lorena who taught us all about road safety. On Tuesday we learnt how to stop, look and listen when we cross a road. On Wednedsay we learnt about how to sit safely in a car. Some of the things Constable Lorena told us about were making sure we sit in the back, making sure we have a car seat, and making sure we wear our seat belts and hear them click! 100 Days at School!

We had so much fun celebrating 100 days of school on Friday! We had collected 100 different things over the holidays, we found 100 objects around our classroom, we played musical statues as a special treat, and we had a shared lunch with all our parents and whanau. It was a great day and an amazing celebration.  When we were looking for objects around our classroom, we found that the easiest way to find 100 things was to find 10 groups of 10. We were learning to skip count in tens last term so we had lots of fun growing our brains and using our new knowledge.

Come on guys, get firewise!

Today we had a visit from the West Harbour fire fighters! It was great to meet them and hear what they had to say about fire safety. They taught us that when we hear a smoke alarm, we have to get low and get out. They also reminded us to plan with our families what our safe meeting place will be once we're out of our house.  We were lucky enough to go inside the fire engine and have a look at what they keep in the storage areas on the side of the truck.
