Corban's Art Centre

Image
Tahi Rua had a great morning at Corban's Art Centre. Our Inspiration was Warren Pohatu. The children drew animals, or creations of their own animals, in pastel. We were all very impressed with their work. A huge thank you to all the wonderful parents/ caregivers, who came to support our children. Check out some photos -

100 Days at School!

Image
We had so much fun celebrating 100 days of school on Friday! We had collected 100 different things over the holidays, we found 100 objects around our classroom, we played musical statues as a special treat, and we had a shared lunch with all our parents and whanau. It was a great day and an amazing celebration.  When we were looking for objects around our classroom, we found that the easiest way to find 100 things was to find 10 groups of 10. We were learning to skip count in tens last term so we had lots of fun growing our brains and using our new knowledge.

Under the Sea!

Image
Under the Sea Over the past two weeks, Tahi Rua have been learning about different types of endangered sea animals. We joined together with Room 34 to split into three inquiry groups, where the children could choose what animal they wanted to learn about. Each group has been looking at different facts and information about their animal, including what we can do to help conserve these creatures. The three animals we focused on were maui dolphins, yellow-eyed penguins, and hawksbill turtles. Check out what we've been working on!

Sea Inquiry

Image
For our Inquiry this term we have been looking at the animals in the sea. The children chose some animals that they would like to learn more about. The final focus will be - 'What we can do to help protect our sea and the animals that live there.' The children have loved the Inquiry and it has combined well with Writing and Art. Check out our Sea Display to date.

Hockey with North Harbour

Earlier in the term North Harbour Hockey came to teach our children some hockey skills. It was quite tricky to hold the stick and move the ball, but we preserved and show lots of improvement.

Come on guys, get firewise!

Image
Today we had a visit from the West Harbour fire fighters! It was great to meet them and hear what they had to say about fire safety. They taught us that when we hear a smoke alarm, we have to get low and get out. They also reminded us to plan with our families what our safe meeting place will be once we're out of our house.  We were lucky enough to go inside the fire engine and have a look at what they keep in the storage areas on the side of the truck. Here are some photos of us with the fire engine and the fire fighters too!

Music in Tahi Rua

Image
Last week on Tuesday we were learning how to keep a beat using percussion instruments. We had lots of fun using the maracas and wooden blocks but our favourite instruments were the triangles and the drum! We sang lots of different songs with our instruments like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Incy Wincy Spider. It was a great morning! Here are some photos of our class enjoying using the instruments.
